The Classic Center Pencil Drawer
This is the drawer most people picture: a wide, shallow tray that sits in the middle of the desk above your knees. At 21.25 in wide with four compartments and only 1.75 in tall, it holds pens, pencils, clips and sticky notes in order without costing much leg room.
Ball Bearing Slides and a Metal Frame
Mount-It! uses full-extension ball bearing slides, so the whole tray comes out and nothing is left hidden at the back. The weight is carried by a metal sliding frame, with a reinforced plastic tray inside. The frame screws into the desk with the included hardware, and Mount-It! says one person can install it alone.
Adjustable Depth, Lifetime Warranty
The mounting bracket extends from 16.25 in to 28 in, so the same drawer fits shallow and deep desks. Mount-It! backs it with a lifetime manufacturer warranty and US-based support, the strongest cover in this comparison. The listing says it works on traditional and sit-stand desks without interfering with height adjustment.
Limitations and Compromises
It needs 23 in of clear width (the hardware is wider than the tray) and 16.25 in of depth on a desktop at least 1 in thick, so thin or cross-braced desks are out. It screws in. The tray is plastic, and at 1.75 in tall it will not take a phone standing up or a stack of paper. Mount-It! does not publish a load limit.
Setup and Care
Measure 23 x 16.25 in of clear space under the desk first. Set the bracket to your desk depth, screw the frame to the underside and clip the tray onto the slides. Keep heavy items elsewhere since no load limit is published.
Who Should Buy It?
- You want a traditional center pencil drawer
- Your desk is at least 1 in thick with 23 in of clear width
- You value full-extension slides
- You want a lifetime warranty
Look elsewhere if your desk is thinner than 1 in: the VIVO 18 x 12 in drawer needs only 5/8 in. If you need to lock it, the Mount-It! locking drawer is the same brand with a key.
SoftPickr Verdict
The Mount-It! large under desk pencil drawer scores 8.2/10. It is the best traditional pencil drawer here, with the widest tray, full-extension slides and a lifetime warranty. Check the 23 in clearance and 1 in thickness before you buy. Prices on Amazon move; the figure in this review was $51.99 at the time of writing and the live listing is the only accurate source.
