Office Furniture, Not Gym Equipment
FluidStance started as a standing desk accessory company, and the Plane shows it. Everything about the board is designed for eight hours next to a keyboard: a 24 x 12 in deck, a 2.5 in height that barely changes your desk setting, and rubber bumpers that “provide natural stopping points” so the board never tips further than it should. FluidStance says that because most of the movement comes from the hips down, “accurate typing is not impacted” — the same claim FEZIBO makes, but backed by a more refined build.
Recycled Materials and Hand Assembly
The Plane’s top deck is made from 100% recycled low-emitting tyre treads and its base from recycled plastic. The brand is based in California and says it assembles each board by hand in its own warehouse, and donates 1% of its earnings to charity. None of that changes how the board moves, but it is the clearest reason why it costs $179 while the FEZIBO costs $59.99 — and it will matter to some buyers.
What the 19.2% Claim Means
FluidStance says that, compared with sitting, standing on the Plane can increase calorie burn by up to 19.2% and heart rate by up to 15%. These are the brand’s own figures, and “up to” is doing a lot of work. The useful takeaway is simpler: standing on a board makes you move more than standing still, and standing still burns more than sitting. Buy it for comfort and variety, not as a weight-loss tool.
Limitations and Compromises
Price is the obvious compromise: $179 buys a beautifully made board, but the motion is not fundamentally different from the FEZIBO’s. The 250 lb maximum is also the joint lowest in the group. The deck is firm rubber, not foam, and with 519 ratings the body of owner feedback is smaller than for the budget boards.
Setup and Maintenance
No assembly. Put it on a flat floor, step on with feet centred and let the bumpers find the floor. Raise your desk about 2.5 in. Wipe the tyre-tread deck with a damp cloth; avoid harsh solvents on the rubber.
Who Should Buy It?
- You want a board that looks like office furniture
- You care about recycled materials and US assembly
- You stand for long stretches and want 360° movement with hard stops
- You weigh under 250 lb and budget is not the main concern
Look elsewhere if price matters — the FEZIBO standing desk balance board offers similar desk-friendly motion for about a third of the price — or if you need a capacity above 250 lb.
SoftPickr Verdict
The FluidStance Plane scores 8.7/10. It is the best-made and best-designed board we compared, and the only one that feels like part of a desk setup rather than an add-on. Prices on Amazon move; the figure in this review was $179.00 at the time of writing and the live listing is the only accurate source.
