Seven Tools for Under $10
The Shard is a flat, solid piece of stainless steel with a titanium nitride coating. Gerber lists seven functions: a pry bar, a bottle opener, small and medium flathead drivers, a cross (Phillips-style) driver, a wire stripper and the lanyard hole. At $7.99 on 7 October 2026 it was the second-cheapest tool in our roundup and had the highest star rating of the bladeless picks (4.7 from 5,237 ratings).
Weight, Travel and Warranty
It is 2.75 inches long and weighs under an ounce, so it adds almost nothing to a key ring. The black listing describes it as airline safe, and Gerber backs it with a limited lifetime warranty. The silver version is a separate listing and was $6.38 when we checked, so compare colors before you buy.
Limitations and Compromises
It has no pliers, scissors or blade, and a flat tool gives less leverage than a folding one. It is a backup for the jobs you meet every week (a stuck lid, a loose screw, a paint can), not a replacement for a real screwdriver set.
Who Should Buy It?
- You want a tool on your keys for under $10
- You fly carry-on
- You want a cheap stocking stuffer from a known brand
Look elsewhere if you want pliers (the Gerber Dime), scissors (the Victorinox Classic SD) or a wrench and ruler (the Nite Ize DoohicKey).
SoftPickr Verdict
The Gerber Shard scores 8.1/10 and is our pick for best keychain multitool under $10. Prices on Amazon move; the figure in this review was $7.99 on 7 October 2026 and the live listing is the only accurate source.
