Why the Red Light Matters
The E03R v2.0 has two LEDs: a 500-lumen white main light and a 5-lumen red auxiliary light. Red light lets you read a map, find something in a tent or check on a sleeping child without wrecking your night vision or waking anyone. Among the keychain flashlights we compared, it is the only one with a dedicated red LED.
Small and Tough
Fenix lists it at about two inches long and one ounce, built from aero-grade aluminum, rated IP66 and impact resistant. IP66 is a step above the IPX6 of the RovyVon and ThruNite on dust protection. It goes on a key chain or clips to a bag.
Charging You Can Read
It charges over USB-C, and a battery status indicator surrounds the power button, so you can see when it needs topping up. The box includes a key chain, a USB-C cable and Fenix’s LumenTac cable organizer.
Limitations and Compromises
It has the lowest star rating among our picks (4.2 from 350 ratings). The listing bullets do not publish beam distance or runtimes, so we do not quote any. There is no magnet or clip in the listing. At $29.95 when we checked, it costs $10 more than the RovyVon for 150 fewer lumens; you are paying for the red LED and the Fenix name.
Who Should Buy It?
- You want a red light for night vision
- You camp, hike or check on kids at night
- You want IP66 and an aluminum body in two inches
- You like a visible battery indicator
Look elsewhere if you want the most lumens for the money (the ThruNite Ti Mini), a magnet for hands-free work (the RovyVon or ThruNite), or UV for checking bills and stains (the Nitecore Tiki).
SoftPickr Verdict
The Fenix E03R v2.0 scores 8.3/10. If a red light is on your list, this is the keychain flashlight to buy; if it is not, the RovyVon or ThruNite give more for less. Prices on Amazon move; the figure in this review was $29.95 at the time of writing and the live listing is the only accurate source.
