The Brightest Light That Still Rides on Keys
Nitecore lists a 4,000-lumen turbo with 228 yards of throw. That is more than six times the 650 lumens of the RovyVon or ThruNite. The catch, which Nitecore states plainly, is that turbo is a 10-second burst. For lighting up a whole backyard, a parking lot or the far side of a field for a moment, nothing else here comes close.
An OLED Display Instead of Guesswork
A small OLED screen shows the brightness level and power status, so you know how much charge is left before you leave the house. Nitecore lists up to 67 hours of runtime per charge (that figure is for the lowest level, not turbo). Most keychain lights give you a single indicator LED at best.
Two Switches, Two Carry Options
A power switch turns it on and off, and a mode switch cycles five brightness levels; hold the mode switch at any time for instant turbo. The keyring has a mechanical quick-release so you can pull the light off the keys, and an adjustable pocket clip is included for pocket carry. The box also includes a USB-C cable, a key clasp and an organizer.
Limitations and Compromises
At $89.95 when we checked it costs more than four times the RovyVon. Turbo is limited to 10 seconds. The listing bullets do not give weight, dimensions or a water rating, so we do not quote them; this is a larger light than the 2-inch Fenix or 55 mm Olight. The listing also showed “only 15 left in stock” when we checked.
Who Should Buy It?
- You want the brightest possible light on your keyring
- You like seeing exact battery status on a screen
- You will use the quick-release to take it off the keys
- Budget is not the main concern
Look elsewhere if you want a tiny, light keychain light (the Nitecore Tiki or Olight Imini 2), the best value (the ThruNite Ti Mini), or a red night-vision LED (the Fenix E03R v2.0).
SoftPickr Verdict
The Nitecore T4K scores 8.4/10. It is the answer to “what is the brightest keychain flashlight” in this roundup, with the best display and controls. The price and size are what keep it from the top spot. Prices on Amazon move; the figure in this review was $89.95 at the time of writing and the live listing is the only accurate source.
