Best For / Skip If
Best for: steady daily users who want a smoother, harder workout than budget felt-resistance machines, and anyone who wants to read the display without looking under the desk.
Skip if: you want the cheapest way to start, or a motor that moves the pedals for you.
Why magnetic resistance matters
Magnetic resistance uses magnets near a flywheel instead of a pad rubbing on a wheel, so nothing touches and there is little to wear. That is why the DeskCycle and Cubii pitch their machines as quiet; it also tends to feel more even from stroke to stroke. The trade-off is price: the Ellipse costs about $80 more than the Sunny on 3 November 2026.
The removable display is a small but useful touch: you can set it on the desk next to your keyboard instead of leaning forward to read it.
Limitations and Compromises
At $199.99 it is a premium manual machine, and it has no app. The listing title says “up to 40 lbs”, which reads as a resistance claim rather than a user weight limit — check the manual for the maximum user weight. Like the Cubii, it is too big to tuck under a low keyboard tray.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the DeskCycle Ellipse quiet?
DeskCycle describes it as “whisper quiet” thanks to magnetic resistance; that is the maker’s claim.
How many resistance levels does it have?
Eight, from very easy to hard, according to the listing.
Can I use it standing up?
The listing presents it as a seated pedal exerciser. Use it the way the maker’s manual describes; standing on a small under desk machine is not what it is built for.
