Best For / Skip If
Best for: people who want a proven manual elliptical with real resistance and a desk with at least a few inches of knee room above 10 inches of machine.
Skip if: your desk is low or has a keyboard tray, or you want the machine to move your legs for you — see the motorized GUGTTR or MERACH instead.
Fitting it under your desk
The JR1 is 10 inches tall at its body and your knees rise further at the top of each stride. Sit in your usual chair, measure from the floor to the top of your knee, add a few inches for the stride, and compare that with the underside of your desk or keyboard tray. If it is close, the lower motorized machines in our roundup (6.3 to 7.5 inches tall) are easier to fit.
At 23 inches deep it slides back under most desks, but you will want a mat or rug under it on hard floors so it does not creep forward.
Limitations and Compromises
The JR1 is heavy for its size (25.4 lb) and has no handle or wheels, so it is better left in one spot. Its app does not sync with the display — you type the numbers in. The listing gives a 150 lb maximum weight recommendation, lower than some rivals. Calorie figures on any of these displays are estimates.
