Why We Picked It
If all you want is a closed laptop off the desk for the least money, the BYMECOST mount does it for under $10 at the time of writing. You get three powder-coated metal brackets, six screws and silicone pads. Unusually for a cheap mount, BYMECOST publishes a weight rating, and it is a generous one: 22 lb.
Small Details That Help
The brackets have air holes to help heat escape, and the front ends are rounded, which BYMECOST says is safer for your legs and hands. The silicone pads resist scratches and slipping. BYMECOST says it can go under the desk or on the side of a desk, and lists laptops, MacBooks, Mac mini, cable boxes, modems and TV boxes as compatible.
Installation
Like the IFCASE, it uses a placement sticker and then screws. BYMECOST’s minimum desktop thickness is 0.4 inch, lower than the other screw-in mounts here, which helps on thinner desks.
Limitations and Compromises
The opening is 1.37 inches, the tightest in this comparison. Most slim laptops fit, but some 16 inch and gaming laptops will not. Its 4.3-star rating is lower than the IFCASE’s 4.7. It needs screws.
Who Should Buy It?
- You want the cheapest reliable way to store a slim laptop
- Your device is 1.37 inches thick or less
- Your desktop is thinner than 3/4 inch
- You want a published weight rating
Look elsewhere if your laptop is thick (the Teridokor), you cannot drill (the BYMECOST no-drill shelf) or you want the best-reviewed bracket set (the IFCASE).
