Fifteen Pucks for Under $30
The square shape is the reason this box holds so much for its price. MHW-3BOMBER rates it at 1.2 L, enough for up to 15 used pucks, which puts it in the same capacity class as boxes that cost twice as much. For a household pulling four to six shots a day, that is two or three days between trips to the bin.
Slanted Mouth and a Padded Bar
The listing describes a patented slanted mouth that blocks coffee residue from spraying out when you strike, and a silicone pad underneath that keeps the box steady and quiet. The knock rod is metal inside a rubber sleeve, which protects the portafilter and deadens the noise. At about 435 g it is heavy enough to stay put while you knock.
Limitations and Compromises
The body is ABS plastic, not steel. MHW-3BOMBER says it can be rinsed straight under the tap with no disassembly, but the listing does not say it is dishwasher-safe. A square 1.2 L box also needs a clear patch of counter rather than a spot on the drip tray.
Setup and Care
Knock the pucks into the compost or trash and rinse the box under the tap. The bar has a grip shape so you can hold it while rinsing.
Who Should Buy It?
- You want big capacity without paying premium prices
- You make drinks for two or more people
- You want a warranty behind a budget box
Skip it if you want a metal box or need something small enough for the drip tray. See every option side by side in our espresso knock box roundup.
