Listing note (19 October 2026): some of the Bambino’s Amazon bullets are the same copy as the Bambino Plus listing and describe an “automatic steam wand”. Seattle Coffee Gear’s product guide for the BES450 states that the Bambino has a manual steam wand, and the listing’s own settings line names a plain steam button rather than milk temperature and texture settings. Plan on steaming milk by hand; if you want the wand that stops itself, that is the Bambino Plus.

Why It Is the Value Pick

The Bambino keeps the parts of the Bambino Plus that matter most for the espresso itself: the ThermoJet heater that is ready in about 3 seconds, PID temperature control and low-pressure pre-infusion, with the same 54 mm, 19 g portafilter. At $299.95 from Amazon on 19 October 2026 it costs $190 less than the Bambino Plus, which was $489.99 from a third-party seller with low stock on the same day. That gap buys most of an entry-level espresso grinder.

It is also the narrowest Breville in our comparisons at 6.3 inches wide on the listing, and it ships with both single- and dual-wall baskets, so you can start with pre-ground coffee and switch to fresh beans later.

Bambino vs Bambino Plus

Portafilter 54 mm, 19 g 54 mm, 19 g

Rating 4.0 / 2,672 4.1 / 2,423

If you mostly drink straight espresso or Americanos, or you are happy to learn milk steaming, the Bambino is the better buy. If lattes and flat whites are the point and you want them without practice, the Plus’s automatic wand is what the extra money pays for.

Limitations and Compromises

The warranty on the listing is one year, half the Plus’s term. There is no built-in grinder, so fresh beans need a capable espresso grinder. The 47 oz tank is small enough to refill often in a busy house, and the Amazon copy that mixes in Bambino Plus wording makes it harder to check what you are getting — read the settings line and the photos before you buy. Its 4.0-star average is a little lower than the Plus.

Who Should Buy It?

  • First-time buyers who want PID and a 3-second heat-up for about $300
  • Espresso and Americano drinkers who don’t need automatic milk
  • Small kitchens: 6.3 inches wide on the listing

Skip it if you want hands-free milk (the Bambino Plus), a 58 mm commercial portafilter you can service yourself (the Gaggia Classic Evo Pro), a grinder in the box (the Barista Express, now above $500), or the lowest price (the Gevi 20 Bar compact).

SoftPickr Verdict

The Breville Bambino scores 8.9/10 and is the value pick in our espresso machine under $500 guide: the Bambino Plus’s heater, PID and portafilter for $190 less, sold by Amazon. The trade is a manual steam wand and a shorter warranty. Prices on Amazon move; the figure here was $299.95 on 19 October 2026 and the live listing is the only accurate source.
