Made for the Dripper
Hario makes the V60, and this scale is shaped for it: a 120 x 190 mm footprint takes a server with a dripper on top, and the 29 mm height keeps the stack low. The built-in timer lets you follow a recipe’s bloom and pour stages, and auto-off is suspended while the timer runs, so a long brew will not switch off halfway.
What the New Model Changed
Hario lists four updates over the older Drip Scale: faster start-up, an improved reaction rate, anti-slip rubber feet and improved water resistance. The older model is still sold (B009GPJMOU, $49.50, 4.5 stars from 3,046 ratings on 7 October); its listing does not state the 0.1 g resolution this one does.
Limitations and Compromises
It has no automatic timer and no flow rate, and it runs on 2 AAA batteries rather than USB-C. At 120 x 190 mm it is too long for most espresso drip trays. The rating (4.2 stars) is the lowest of the pour-over picks, and at $46.11 it costs more than the TIMEMORE, which adds flow rate.
Who Should Buy It?
- You brew V60 and want the matching scale
- You want a low, long platform for a server
- You prefer AAA batteries to charging
Look elsewhere if you want flow rate or an auto timer (the TIMEMORE) or espresso use (the Maestri House S2).
